Downingtown schools - STEM

I recently stumbled upon a state policy map which shows how friendly each state is regarding resources and funding for the gifted and talented.  It appears that Pennsylvania mandates gifted education but no funding is available through the state.  We have to thank the Downingtown Area School District for all the funding available for the DEEP initiative.

I am all excited as DASD joins the PA commonwealth in an attempt for global competitiveness with the forming of the STEM Academy.  STEM - a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathemetics magnet school is scheduled to open at the Downingtown High campus in Fall 2011.   The first leader/principal for the school was unanimously elected at a recent board meeting.  Things are moving and a lot of people are working behind the scenes to make it happen!

If you missed the informative event held at the Lionville Middle School on March 16, you can visit the Downingtown Middle School between 7 and 9.30pm on May 19, 2010.  For those of us who still cannot make it, there is a wealth of information on the STEM website.
