Produce Junction, Exton - Challenge
I have been visiting the Produce Junction off Rt. 100 in Exton for a few years now. For those not familiar with the place, it is THE place to get your fresh produce cheap (not locally grown). They have a wide variety of prepackaged fruits and vegetables, prices written on huge white boards above each section - fruits, vegetable and flowers.
You have to get in 3 lines if you want all three. Some packages are left out for you to pick up and bring to the counter, some are behind the counter, you have to ask for them. Your purchase is piled up on the counter and the cashier does the math (no calculators...) gives you the change and you are on your way. Did I mention - they only accept cash. They get really busy and the whole interaction may only be a couple of minutes...they move you along pretty fast.
So here's the challenge. How do you get all the items you need, make some impulse purchase decisions, find that some items you need are not in stock and may have to be replaced, figure out the prices from the whiteboard (they are alphabetical in each category - good luck), do the math, count the change and pick up the packages all in a matter of few minutes?
Or - you simply get in line, trust the cashier and pay whatever he/she asks and shuffle on to the next line....
I wonder if someone has figured out an app for this....

Uwchlan Township Community Day
See you all Saturday July 10th at Devon Drive on Rt 113 for the best fireworks in Chester county! Uwchlan township is having their annual community day with live music food and activities. The festivities usually start at 4pm but if you want to save a good spot for the fireworks, come early and leave your chairs/blankets.

Learn more about school districts
The 'award winning Downingtown schools' have been a major factor for home sales in DASD. Realtors direct clients to several websites that provide good information GreatSchools.com or Schoolmatters.com The Philadelphia Inquirer recently published its 2010 School Report Card
Reading about all these school statistics brings up a lot of questions about what exactly a good school means.
Is it one with a good student teacher ratio? lower class sizes? high math and reading scores?
Now that global markets are a reality, are we looking for diversity? schools emphasizing special programs like learning support, programs for gifted students, IEP....based on our child's needs? should we look for teacher qualifications? or percentage of graduates going on to college?
Parents, educators, please feel free to comment and provide resources that may help further this discussion.

Concerned citizens of Downingtown!
Be a concerned Downingtown citizen and click for your pet peeves!
All of us, at some point or another, have wanted local township official to fix something. Potholes, street cleaning during snowstorms, recycling issues or simply local traffic can get us into quite a tizzy. However, life moves at too fast a pace to leave us the time or energy to follow through. Now, its easy! Here's an example of the internet, once again, changing the way we live and interact.
The Daily Local News and SeeClickFix.com have partnered in an effort to empower area residents by providing an interactive tool to help them report non-emergency, quality-of-life issues. The first person reports it, (hopefully) enough local supporters pitch in and if the numbers get high, the township officials may get a wind of it and actually fix it!
That pothole on Wagon Trail Way bothering you? Taking forever to make the left from Quarry Road? Need timed lights at the Wegman's intersection? A solution might be just a few clicks away!
